Listen – The Voice Inside

Updated: Jul 18, 2025

🎶 Inspired by the song “Listen” from Dreamgirls

“Listen, to the song here in my heart - a melody I start but can’t complete.

Listen, to the sound from deep within - it’s only beginning to find release…”

Do you ever have this feeling inside you telling you there's more?

A little whisper. A soft nudge.

Sometimes that voice is quiet. Sometimes it’s loud. But it's authentic - it's the part of you that existed before life asked you to fit into someone else’s story.

Maybe it's been silent for years, buried under other people's expectations or demands of life. But it’s still there. You can feel it, and you know it matters - even if you don’t know exactly what it is yet.

It’s a melody you started long ago, but never got to finish.

Years have passed, and someone else’s tune was playing, and you went along with it. Maybe someone once told you who to be. And maybe you believed them.

But deep down, there are different notes you’re meant to play- and now you’re finally allowing yourself to hear them.

There are times when you try to express it, but those around you just can’t hear it.

You hint. You speak. You drop clues. But they get lost in the buzz of life.

That’s okay. Because as long as you believe, it will keep growing inside.

And that's powerful - because when we begin to listen and act on it, even through small ways like writing, moving, or creating, our brain releases dopamine, the reward hormone. And it boosts our energy, clarity, and momentum - even before the goal is reached. The resistance to stay where we are grows. That’s not a sign that something’s wrong. That’s our nervous system saying: there’s something more. You feel it, you see it.

Yet, people around you might not get it. They might not hear the same melody. Maybe because they’ve stopped listening to their own.

Does that matter? Yes. Because when someone believes in us, the path gets easier.

But does it have to stop us? No.

Because to begin with, believing in your dream is enough.

Just one small act.

One moment of courage over comfort.

One brave step forward.

We are allowed to want more.

We are allowed to write the song we started.

We are allowed to stop singing someone else’s chorus.

Maybe someone once told you who to be.

What to do.

What dreams were acceptable.

Maybe that voice guided you once.

But now?

Now it’s time to find your own.

Even if it shakes. Even if they don’t understand. Even if you walk alone for a little while.

Because, there’s still a song inside you.

And it’s yours to play.
